Noblesville has been the Hamilton County seat since 1824, and its downtown still shows the money that came through during the natural gas boom of 1888. That prosperity built the Hamilton County Courthouse in 1879 and the Second Empire-style Sheriff's Residence and Jail in 1876, both still standing on the courthouse square, and it filled in the streets around them with the ornate Victorian houses you still see on Catherine Street, Conner Street, and South 9th Street, three separate National Register historic districts inside one town.
The population tells the growth story: 28,590 in 2000, 51,969 by 2010, 69,604 at the 2020 census, and current Census Bureau estimates near 75,400 now. Most of that growth is newer construction on the east side, generally split between Noblesville Schools and Hamilton Southeastern Schools depending on the address, and it looks nothing like the Victorian core downtown. The median home value across the city sits around $349,700.
That split matters for the kind of work we quote. A Victorian on Conner Street with a turret and three or four intersecting gables is a different roof than a two-story production home built in the last fifteen years near the White River. We treat them as different jobs because they are.
Ruoff Music Center, the roughly 25,000-seat amphitheater that opened in 1989, still ranks among the busiest outdoor music venues anywhere, which says something about how much traffic passes through this part of Hamilton County even outside the neighborhoods themselves.

Four things come up often enough between Noblesville's Victorian core and its newer east-side subdivisions that we look for them before we quote anything.
Tarred-over valley flashing on Victorian rooflines
The multi-gable homes near the courthouse square and along Conner and Catherine streets often have three or more valleys close together. Over the decades a leaking valley frequently gets a coat of roofing cement instead of new metal, which buys a season or two and then fails again, usually worse. Ice damming in a hard winter finds that patch first.
Turrets and towers capped with asphalt instead of metal
Some of the Victorian-era homes downtown have conical or polygonal turret roofs that need custom-cut metal to shed water correctly. During a standard reroof it is common for that section to get covered with cut-down asphalt shingles instead, which shortens its life and usually shows up as a leak inside a few years.
Poorly step-flashed additions on older homes
Where a rear addition was added onto an original downtown house, the roof tie-in against the old wall was not always step-flashed correctly, especially on additions done decades ago. Homeowners often chase the leak toward the newer part of the roof when the real entry point is at that old tie-in seam.
Downspout extensions pulled out of grade on new east-side lots
On newer construction near the river and creek bottoms on the east side, the lawn grading settles over the first couple of years, and splash blocks and downspout extensions that were set correctly at closing end up pointing back toward the foundation instead of away from it.

Noblesville is close to 40 minutes from our shop on 500 East, so we schedule it deliberately rather than treating it as a spur-of-the-moment stop.
